Somali Transitional Federal Government President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed sat down with Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo face-to-face for the first time Thursday (June 28th) in Dubai, according to a statement signed by both presidents.
The meeting, which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates, follows the first formal direct talks between the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Somaliland held in the United Kingdom last week.
Somalia's Defence Minister Hussein Arab Isse told state-owned Radio Mogadishu that the talks ended successfully and the two presidents agreed to fully endorse the outcomes of the UK conference at Chevening House and the previous conference in Istanbul. Both leaders agreed to continue the dialogue to clarify the relationship between the two sides.
The two leaders also agreed to facilitate trade between the two parties, which Isse said was a milestone agreement that could lead to more direct interactions between Somalis.

Somali pirates kill hostage to protest delayed ransom

September 02, 2012
Somali pirates killed a hostage and wounded another on a cargo ship hijacked nearly two years ago to protest delayed ransom payments, the United Arab Emirates' The National reported Sunday (September 2nd).
Hassan Abdi, a pirate leader based in the Somali town of Harardhere, a known centre of piracy in Somalia, said Friday that the killing on Wednesday was a warning to the ship's owners. "More killings will follow if they continue to lie to us -- we have lost patience with them. Two years is enough," he told the Associated Press.
Pirates off the coast of the Seychelles hijacked the Panama-flagged MV Orna, which is owned by a company based in the UAE, in December 2010. The pirates fired small arms and rocket-propelled grenades before boarding the boat.
