A man has been arrested for human trafficking after he tried to bring 16 children into the country, North West police said on Friday.
The suspect allegedly tried to bring the Zimbabwean children into South Africa.
Authorities stopped the 41-year-old man in Mafikeng on Thursday.
The police's Karen Tredoux said, “Two boys and one girl unfortunately managed to run away from police. Five other boys and two girls were taken to the Mooinooi police station.”
She said the children were then taken to a nearby shelter.
The Cape Town man will appear in court on Monday.
