Dubai: A carpenter got 15 years in jail for sexually exploiting seven poor and needy girls and forcing them into prostitution.
The Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday jailed the 28-year-old Bangladeshi accused, S.R., to 15 years after he was found guilty of committing a human trafficking crime.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir Fahmi, who pronounced Sunday's judgment, said the accused will be deported after the completion of his punishment.
One of the girls, a 21-year-old Indonesian woman, suffered paralysis when she fell down while trying to escape from the third floor flat that S.R. ran as a brothel using a rope.
Prosecution records said police discovered the alleged prostitution den after the girl fell from the third floor where she claimed she was being forced into prostitution along with other girls.
Prosecutors accused S.R. of exploiting the needs and poverty of 21-year-old N.R. and six other girls and forcing them into the sex trade.
Chief Prosecutor Esmail Ali Madani asked the court to implement the toughest punishment applicable
"I am not guilty. I did not push or force any of the girls into prostitution. I did not do that," argued S.R. when he defended himself in court.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant, along with two other suspects [who remain at large], formed an organised group of human traffickers. They abused the needs of the seven girls.
Yesterday's judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
