SAN ANTONIO—The eyes and ears of truck drivers can be a crucial tool to combat human trafficking.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, law enforcement agencies, and the trucking industry are working together to spread the word.
With long stretches of highway across a border state, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said that the state is one of the top destination points for victims and traffickers in the nation.
"Texas repeatedly is the No. 1 state truckers are making calls out of,” said Executive Director of Truckers Against Trafficking Kendis Paris.
Texas officials and trucking advocates want to keep up the reputation. Truckers Against Trafficking hauls a large tractor trailer across the country to show truck drivers how to speak up.

"Truckers have now made close to 1,500 calls into the hotline that's resulted in about 452 cases and close to 1,000 victims,” said Paris.
Truckers often drive further and stay longer at rest areas than the average traveler.
"They're used to these kinds of surroundings and they can tell, more than the rest of us, when something’s not quite right,” Paris said.
Since the road and the truck are their offices, speaking up is day to day workplace conduct.
"The number one response we get from drivers is 'I've got daughters, I've got granddaughters', how can I be a trucker against trafficking,” said Paris.
