Local authorities have been continuously rescuing human trafficking and illegal recruitment victims for several consecutive operations in the different wharfs of the city. Last Friday, combined personnel of the Local police Women and Children’s Concern Section (WCCS) and Intelligence Unit together with the Armed Forces of Philippines personnel rescued fourteen women believed to be victims of illegal recruitment. Reports showed that the victims were found to go to Malaysia via M/V Trishia Kerstin 2 docked at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). The police and military brought to victims to WCCS for proper investigation and record purpose then later turned over to the Visayan Forum for proper custody. Information received by Zamboanga Today disclosed that the women were spotted in a boarding house along San Jose Gusu by a military informant, who reported to the police. Prior to their departure, the local authorities were able to withheld the 14 women and save them from mal treatment and imprisonment in Malaysia for illegal entry. By Eugene A. Lasprilla |
