Human trafficking 2,227 cases investigated since January 2011

FIA teams conducted 31 raids at various travel agencies and illegal businesses and arrested 71 human smuggling suspects
LAHORE:  Four anti-human trafficking circles of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the Punjab have registered 2,227 complaints including court cases since January, 2011. As many as 1,242 cases have been registered at the four FIA police stations following these inquiries.
During this period, there were convictions in 517 cases and acquittals in 62 cases. The FIA also arrested 185 proclaimed offenders and 92 courts absconders.
Seven most-wanted human traffickers were also arrested. FIA teams conducted 31 raids at travel agencies and illegal businesses and arrested 71 human smuggling suspects.
During the same period, 7,829 international flights arrived and departed from the Allama Iqbal International Airport. The FIA teams arrested 22 passengers for travelling on lost passports, 37 for their names on the black list, one for traveling on a stolen passport, five for their names on the exit control list (ECL), three for being wanted by the Interpol and 10 for being in the FIA internal wanted list.

As many as 150 passengers were off-loaded by the FIA immigration staffers, 35 for travelling on lost passports, 78 for being on the black list, two for travelling on stolen passports, 14 for being in the ECL, 14 for being issued Red Notices from the Interpol and 15 for being in the FIA’s internal wanted list.
