High Commission of South Africa gave the tip-off

With the arrest of three persons, the south district police claimed to have busted a gang, allegedly involved in human trafficking, on Friday. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Tek Bahadur Ghimire, Devender Gurang and Shakil Ahmed.

On 9 September, police received a complaint from the High Commission of South Africa, Vasant Vihar, that Ghimire approached them with a fake visa of South Africa on his Nepali passport. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he got the visa with the help of Gurang, after paying Rs 2 lakh.

"Later, a raid was conducted at Devli and Gurang was nabbed. Police also recovered 18 passports from his possession. Then, according to the information given by him, the police arrested one Shakil Ahmed, and recovered two passports and two fake visa stickers of South Africa from his possession," said the officer.

At the time of interrogation, the accused disclosed that they worked as travel agents and used to send people to Malaysia and Mauritius on genuine visas. They have sent more than 100 people.
