DUBAI — The police rushed to rescue a woman, who was allegedly held captive as a sex worker, after she threw down distress messages on scraps of papers from the window, a court heard on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Pakistani visitor had been held up for several days in a villa in Muttaina area of Muraqqabat and deprived of freedom while forced to have paid sex with men for the benefit of her ‘captors’.
The alleged captors include two women (a visitor and a nanny) and a man — all Pakistanis. They stood trial in the Court of First Instance on the charges of human trafficking, illegal confinement and running a brothel.
The nanny and an Indian woman visitor were also charged with indulging in prostitution.
An Emirati lieutenant told the prosecutor that they were informed by passersby about a woman throwing scraps of paper in which she asked for help in Muttaina. When the police went there, they saw a crowd assembled on the street and all confirmed that a woman was seeking help in slips of paper she threw on to the street. When the police went inside the defendants’ villa, the latter denied that there was any problem there. Suddenly, the victim rushed out from a room and hid behind a policeman seeking his help. She recounted to the cops how she came to the UAE to work in a beauty salon and how she was forced later to work in prostitution under beating and threats.
She also said that there was an Indian woman who was working as a prostitute in the house. That woman claimed that she was living in the house for Dh500 and that she worked at a hotel.
The policemen stopped the Indian when she tried to run away. She was charged with indulging in prostitution.
The Pakistani victim said during the Public Prosecution interrogation that she arrived in Dubai in December end last year. She was forced to have sex with a Pakistani man in an apartment on the same night itself, after a woman beat her up and told her to obey as the apartment was run as a brothel. She had sex with men daily for three consecutive days. She was later taken to a hotel room to meet a customer. Then she was moved to a villa.
The Pakistani woman defendant, who was here on a visit visa, brought a compatriot customer to the room and tied the victim’s hair with a rope and held the other end. Each time, she screamed as the customer tried to have sex with her, the defendant would pull the rope, causing the victim severe pain. She finally gave up and had sex with that man. The Pakistani woman defendant also threatened to file a police report against her accusing her of theft if she did not obey her. From a window in the room where she was held up, she threw slips of paper in which she scribbled SOS messages.
