Shaikha Fatima opens Charity Bazar for trafficking victims

ABU DHABI — Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU) and of the Family Development Foundation, opened a charity Bazar, the proceeds of which will be used to help the victims of human trafficking, on the premises of the union.
Shaikha Alyaziah bint Zayed Al Nahyan was present at the opening ceremony.
The Charity Bazar, which will run for three days, is intended to raise funds to help women and children who have become the victims of the transnational crime of human trafficking. Most of them are given shelter by the Ewa shelter homes supported by the UAE Red Crescent.Shaikha Fatima donated Dh1 million to the Ewa shelter homes and launched the Ewa web portal.
She then toured around the GWU headquarters and visited the new facilities for the child visitation centre managed by the union. The visitation centre is intended to facilitate separated or divorced parents to visit their children. Shaikha Fatima hailed the efforts of the officials looking after the centre.
The Charity Bazar, jointly organised by the GWU and the Ewa shelter homes with support from the Flower and Garden Group and the TwoFour54, offers leather products, women’s garments as well as handicrafts made by the inmates of the shelter homes.
Executive Director of the Ewa shelter homes Sarah Shuhail expressed gratitude to Shaikha Fatima for her patronage of the charity event.
